Last Tuesday evening it was “Summer Sounds” in The Glen. This is a summer-long series with live music…often blues, folk, jazz, rock and reggae. This week’s band was Five Guys Named Moe. The group featured four outstanding vocalists, magnificent harmonies, horns, percussion, and some of Chicago’s finest musicians. Five Guys Named Moe offered us a diverse repertoire of songs, and I understand each of their shows is different from the last. The Moes, one of Chicago’s top entertainment acts, love to perform…and it shows.
My eleven year old son rode his scooter down to Navy Park in Glen Town Center, not wanting to miss even one song. My husband and I strolled down the two blocks from our home a few minutes later. A couple hundred of our neighbors took in the show this week, many with picnic baskets and blankets or lawn chairs. The scene was that of classic Americana.
In addition to the band, there were crafts and interactive activities. There was a face painter for the kids; and a balloon artist was also on hand to provide custom balloon designs. Glen restaurants provided food, soft drinks, wine and beer. My son and I chose pizza from Salernos Pizzeria, and it was out of this world. Neighbors and visitors mingled with each other, and we all had a wonderful time. Best of all…it was free as all Glen neighborhood activities are.
