Curragh Irish Pub

Summer in Glenview means outdoor dining in The Glen

June 13, 2017 by Margaret Ludemann

A couple of months ago I wrote a blog about the unofficial – but very real – sign of spring in Glenview, the opening of the Glenview Dairy Bar. Well, there’s also a sign of summer, and its right here in The Glen…outdoor dining in Glen Town Center.

We have 17 restaurants in The Glen, popular with locals and with people from throughout Chicagoland‘s North Shore. My sister and two nieces visited from out of town last weekend. We walked through Glen Town Center from our Tower Crossing townhome, barely a block away. We passed outdoor diners at Your Pie (a great little pizza place), State and Main, Flight Wine Bar, Ra Sushi Bar & Restaurant, Uno Mas, Bravo Cucina Italiana, Yardhouse, and several more wonderful restaurants. We decided on Curragh Irish Pub. The food was terrific, but the ambiance of dining outdoors on a lovely summer evening was even more so.

One of the great things about living in The Glen is our proximity to restaurants, shops, Arclight Cinema, and so much more. In fact, you can walk to Glen Town Center from any of the homes in The Glen whether they be single family homes, row homes, duplexes or condos. In many ways it’s like living in the city, though with less traffic and noise. In fact, we refer to The Glen lifestyle as “urban living in the suburbs”. The best of both worlds! And if we want to actually go to the city, our local Metra can get to the loop in 30 to 45 minutes.

So, stop by for dinner sometime. You’ll enjoy the food and fall in love with our community. And if you do, give me a call. I am an award winning Realtor who lives in and focuses on Glen homes.

The Glen…a “neighborly” place to live

April 26, 2016 by Margaret Ludemann

I’ve lived in The Glen housing development in Glenview Illinois for 13 years, and I’m an original homeowner in the Tower Crossing townhome neighborhood. One of the really fun things about living in my neighborhood is what we call “mailbox parties”. My home is one of 44 homes sharing a large, beautifully landscaped, oval-shaped courtyard. The backs of our townhomes face this serene, park-like setting with lush green grass and large trees. Oh, it also contains…our mailboxes.

From time to time – usually monthly – one neighbor or another announces that a mailbox party will be held on a particular evening with all Valor Court and Valor Drive residents invited. Everyone brings food and drink to share along with big smiles and stories to tell. In the winter, our mailbox parties move inside, sometimes to the Glenview Golf & Paddle clubhouse across the street, sometimes to the Curragh pub, and yet other times to one of our homes. In this way we have created a very neighborly place to live.

Other parts of The Glen have similar traditions. Many of the homes in the Landings neighborhood have adjacent backyards, not only side-by-side, but also back-to-back. It’s common in summertime to see neighbors sharing evenings together “out back”…grilling, sharing drinks, and watching their children run to and fro.

The Chapel Crossing neighborhood is home to Independence Avenue, a long, wide street with a common area dividing its two sides. This green space is a perfect place for neighbors to congregate, particularly on nights when someone has arranged for an ice cream truck to appear at an appointed time. An email goes out to over 800 Glen families announcing the day and time, and there is always a good crowd of neighbors enjoying not only the sweets, but also (mainly) each other.

This kind of thing happens throughout The Glen. Sure, The Glen is known for its beautiful homes, fine restaurants, trendy boutiques, Lake Glenview, and Gallery Park; but the real fun of living here is its neighborly character. It’s a great place…for ice cream socials, backyard bar-b-ques, and yes, even mailbox parties.

If you may be interested in living in The Glen, please give me a call. I am an award-winning Realtor with expert knowledge of the neighborhoods, homes, and lifestyle.

Curragh Irish Pub, MOOYAH & Pinot’s Palette join The Glen

April 21, 2014 by Margaret Ludemann

I’ve often described owning a home in The Glen as having the best of both worlds.  It’s urban living…in the suburbs.  The suburban part of this description means great schools, safe neighborhoods, no congestion, golf courses, and plenty of room to walk, jog or run.  As for urban living we have Glen Town Center with its many restaurants, boutiques, theater, book store, museum, and coffee shop…all within an enjoyable 3 block stroll along Tower Drive.

Two new restaurants opened recently.  The Curragh Irish Pub is a traditional Irish eatery with a big menu.  You’ll find 11 starters, 9 soups & salads, 10 traditional Irish dishes, 5 additional entrees, 9 sandwiches + burgers, 6 tempting desserts, several sides, a children’s menu, an extensive wine list, and a full bar.  My family recommends the Guinness fish & chips, shepherds pie, and the Curragh reuben.  The ambiance is classy yet comfortable and fun.

If you are a burger connoisseur, you’re in luck.  A restaurant called MOOYAH opened a few weeks ago offering great burgers (including those of turkey and veggie varieties), and hot dogs with your choice of buns and different cheeses.  Several toppings and sauces are available, including something called “MOOYAH sauce” which is as tasty as it is mysterious.  The fries are fresh cut every day and made on site.  My husband loves the traditional burger, I enjoyed the turkey burger, and our son found the “real ice cream shakes” to his liking (no surprise there).

My third “find” in Glen Town Center is really fun.  It’s called Pinot’s Palette whose motto is “Paint.  Drink.  Have fun.”  It’s a place to learn to paint while having a glass of wine with friends.  Upcoming event themes include “girls night out”, “VIP night” and “date night”.  Staff members help you along the way, and as they say, a good time is had by all.

The Glen is an upscale residential and retail community on Chicago’s North Shore in the village of Glenview.  The residential real estate market offers luxury homes of all types…single family homes, townhouses, row homes, duplexes, two-flats, and apartment condos.  If you may be interested in living in The Glen, please contact me at 847-401-1802 or margaretludemann@gmail.com
