Cambridge at The Glen…all kinds of homes and prices

May 16, 2019 by Margaret Ludemann

The Glen is a residential and retail development in the beautiful North Shore village of Glenview.  It contains nine individual neighborhoods, built between 2001 and 2017 by different developers.  Cambridge at The Glen is one of those neighborhoods, and it has the most diversity of home styles.  Some Glen neighborhoods have only one home type.  For instance, the Landings and Chapel Crossing developments only have single family homes, and you’ll only find townhomes in Tower Crossing.  Still another neighborhood, Southgate, offers townhomes and single family homes.

On the other hand, Cambridge has single family homes, townhomes, row homes, duplexes and two-flats.  The range of home prices is also quite different from most of the other Glen neighborhoods, from the high $400s to $1 million.  You’ll find some row homes and two-flats in the $400s and $500s.  Single family homes can reach a seven figure price point.

In addition to the diversity and prices of Cambridge, there are other advantages to the neighborhood.  It is closest to The Glen’s Metra train station, an easy walk from any of its homes.  It is also very close to Glen Town Center, the crown jewel of The Glen.  It has wonderful restaurants, shops, a movie theater, bookstore, coffee shop and it even borders a Kohl Children’s Museum.  Cambridge’s proximity to Gallery Park is another advantage with its open spaces, jogging trails, lake and tennis courts.  And, it’s walking distance to two great golf courses, The Glen Club and Glenview Prairie Club.

So, no matter what kind of home you prefer, Cambridge at The Glen would be a great place to live.  If you would like to take a look, give me a call.

Curious about Tower Crossing in The Glen?

August 28, 2018 by Margaret Ludemann

“Admit it.  You’re curious.”  So said the sign draped over the Optima condo complex in Skokie.  The building looks like it’s all glass, and indeed whenever I drove on I-94, I was curious.

The same goes for a terrific neighborhood in The Glen (in Glenview, Illinois, called Tower Crossing.  The development is adjacent to Glen Town Center’s many shops and restaurants.  There are 154 four-story Georgian brick townhomes in Tower Crossing, and as a homeowner I’ve seen countless people stare at these wonderful homes with obvious curiosity.  They don’t look like most townhomes.  First of all, they are huge, ranging in size from 3031 sq ft to 4105 sq ft.  Much larger than most townhomes! And the brick designs of the six models are creative and quite different than any townhome complex I’ve ever seen.

One day I was sitting on my front porch when a passerby asked me what level of my home I live on.  Huh?  I explained that the entire home was a single unit.  She didn’t believe me.  She speculated whether each townhome had three or four apartment units.  I explained that every Tower Crossing property, regardless of model, was a single unit with four stories.  She said I was wrong.  Even though I’ve lived in my townhome for 15 years, and as a Realtor who has sold more Tower Crossing homes than any other realtor, I explained that I knew everything about every model…and all were individual homes. For some reason she couldn’t get her brain around that one.

While many people are curious about Tower Crossing, my neighbors and I know that this is a great place to live.  Our homes are beautiful inside and out.  Most have three bedrooms, though some have two and others have four.  We can walk easily and quickly to all of The Glen’s restaurants, shops, Arclight Cinema and the local Metra train station.  It’s kind of like urban living, but in the suburbs with great schools and easy access to downtown Chicago and O’Hare airport.

If you, like so many people who walk around my neighborhood, are curious, let me show you some of the homes that are for sale or rent.  Tower Crossing prices range from in the $600’s to over $800,000.  Just send me an email at margaretludemann@gmail.com or call me at 847-401-1802

The Glen. New Urbanism. Huh?

December 19, 2016 by Margaret Ludemann

The Glen in Glenview Illinois is a perfect example of a community design concept called New Urbanism which emphasizes walkable neighborhoods that reduce a dependence on cars and one that promotes a strong sense of community.  Rather than the seemingly endless developments of single family homes with no commercial core, new urbanism envisions a retail center around which various neighborhoods are built with a variety of home styles.

Suburban sprawl came about with the rise of cars in the first half of the 20th century.  Autos allowed people to live away from the city.  To go to the city or – later – to shopping malls that sprang up in the 60’s and 70’s, people got in their cars and drove.  They may have lived in specific neighborhoods, but they had little in the way of identity and emotional attachment to these areas.

New Urbanism also emphasizes plenty of open spaces and community institutions to be shared by residents and easily accessible by walking or riding bikes.  Mass transit typically is provided for distances that might typically be reached by automobiles, thus New Urbanism is considered environmentally friendly.

The Glen has a retail core called Glen Town Center with tons of shops, restaurants and a movie theater.  This three block area is located on Tower Drive that my family refers to as “Main Street”.  Within The Glen one also finds playgrounds, two golf courses, tennis courts, sports fields, Battery Park, Lake Glenview, Kohl Children’s Museum, and the Glenview Park Center with a health club, basketball courts, and a pre-school.  Residents from any of the various Glen neighborhoods can walk to any of these venues.

There are many housing types in The Glen including single family homes, condos, townhomes, row homes, duplexes and two-flats.  These homes offer an abundance of architectural styles to please most any taste.  We also have our own Metra train station for residents who need to reach the city for work or who want to take advantage of Chicago’s many cultural and sports offerings.

If The Glen sounds like kind of place where you would like to live, please contact me.  I am a long time Glen homeowner and an award winning Realtor.  I can be reached by phone at 847-401-1802 or by email at margaretludemann@gmail.com.
