Annual Art Fair in The Glen Is This Weekend, August 3 & 4

July 31, 2019 by Margaret Ludemann

This is a weekend that everyone in The Glen, Glenview and much of the North Shore looks forward to…the Annual Glen Art Fair.  It’s one of the largest in the Chicago metropolitan area, and many consider it the best.  Glen Town Center will come alive with artist booths featuring painting, jewelry, sculpture and wearables.  Spend time visiting with the many artists (150 in all) who will have their work for sale.  There will be live music, art demonstrations and the ever popular art tent for kids.  There is no charge and plenty of parking…and great weather is in the forecast.  The exhibits will be open from 10 to 5 Saturday and Sunday.  2030 Tower Drive in Glenview.

The Glen…Convenient to Everything

February 1, 2019 by Margaret Ludemann

My husband and I recently purchased a condo in his home town of Omaha.  It’s for investment purposes, at least for now.  Someday way down the road after I retire, we may use it personally as well as keeping our home here in The Glen (in the north shore community of Glenview).

Why do I mention this?  Well, because we chose a location very much like The Glen.  By that I mean, the condo is within walking distance of restaurants, shopping, and a movie theater.  After living in The Glen, we couldn’t imagine spending time – full or part – in a place that doesn’t have this level of convenience.

Our Glen home is a half-block from a great pizza place, Your Pie.  Within the three-block long main street called Tower Drive, we have a choice of numerous restaurants, wonderful shops, Arclight Cinema, Kohl Children’s Museum, a laundry, ice cream parlor, Starbucks and so much more.  We can even walk to a Metra train station that gets us to Chicago’s loop in 30 – 45 minutes.  If I wasn’t a Realtor, I’m not sure we would even own a car.

So, if this sounds like a great place to live, give me a call.  There are many luxury home types currently for sale including single family, townhomes, row homes, duplexes, two-flats and condo/apartments.  Prices range from around $400,000 to over $2 million.  Certainly, you can find one that’s perfect for you.

The Glen’s Annual Art Fair…a big success once again

August 11, 2017 by Margaret Ludemann

The annual Glen Art Fair was held last weekend, and it was a great success again this year.  Artists from throughout the United States displayed their beautiful works of art; in fact I met artists from California to New York.  As always, this fun event took place on Tower Drive, Glen Town Center’s main drag; and it seemed to me that we had more visitors than in any previous year.

The Glen is the North Shore’s premier lifestyle community, meaning it has stunning homes, 17 restaurants, upscale shopping, jogging trails, golf courses, tennis courts, and a picturesque lake.  It is located on the site of the former Glenview Naval Air Station in Glenview, Illinois, approximately 18 miles north of downtown Chicago.

Visitors to the fair were treated to art of many genres including paintings, photography, sculpture, glass works, folk art, crafts, cartooning, and digital art. I live only one block from Glen Town Center in The Glen’s Tower Crossing neighborhood, so it was easy for me to come and go several times over the weekend.  I purchased several items related to “home” that I’ll give to my real estate clients.

All of this will happen again next August, and I’m already looking forward to it.  You should check it out, too.  You’ll enjoy it as much as those of us who are fortunate homeowners and residents of The Glen. And if you might be interested in living in the Glen, please give me a call. I am a local Realtor who specializes in Glen properties – single family homes, row homes, town homes, two flats, duplexes and condos.

17 restaurants in Glen Town Center

March 3, 2017 by Margaret Ludemann

He couldn’t believe it.  Really, he couldn’t.

My family is hosting a Japanese exchange student for the next eight days.  He will be attending Glenbrook South, the incredible high school serving Glenview.  We picked him up yesterday and drove him to our home in The Glen, the North Shore’s premier lifestyle community.

After getting him settled in my husband, son and I took him out to dinner.  Of course he doesn’t know the restaurants in the area so we walked him down Tower Drive which is the main restaurant and shopping area in Glen Town Center.  There are 17 restaurants in this two block area, so he had quite a selection to choose from.  I’m not making that up.  It’s a half block from my front door to Tower Drive, and by walking for 5 minutes he had a choice of restaurants serving Italian, Greek, Irish, Thai, Japanese, Mexican and traditional American fare.  He couldn’t believe the number of restaurants and the variety of food all within a brief stroll.  I couldn’t understand what he was saying, but I could tell that he was amazed.

“Sato” chose Yardhouse, a great place with a large menu.  We thought he might choose Ra Sushi Bar & Restaurant, but he was in the mood for an American hamburger.  When his meal was served his eyes got really big because of the size of his burger.  He even took a picture of it to send back home.

After dinner we drove him around The Glen, and he got to see our many luxury homes…single family homes, townhomes, row homes, duplexes, two-flats.  These wonderful homes along with the upscale shopping and terrific Glen restaurants are what set The Glen apart.

If you may be interested in living in The Glen, give me a call.  I am an award winning Realtor and a long-time resident.

The Glen. New Urbanism. Huh?

December 19, 2016 by Margaret Ludemann

The Glen in Glenview Illinois is a perfect example of a community design concept called New Urbanism which emphasizes walkable neighborhoods that reduce a dependence on cars and one that promotes a strong sense of community.  Rather than the seemingly endless developments of single family homes with no commercial core, new urbanism envisions a retail center around which various neighborhoods are built with a variety of home styles.

Suburban sprawl came about with the rise of cars in the first half of the 20th century.  Autos allowed people to live away from the city.  To go to the city or – later – to shopping malls that sprang up in the 60’s and 70’s, people got in their cars and drove.  They may have lived in specific neighborhoods, but they had little in the way of identity and emotional attachment to these areas.

New Urbanism also emphasizes plenty of open spaces and community institutions to be shared by residents and easily accessible by walking or riding bikes.  Mass transit typically is provided for distances that might typically be reached by automobiles, thus New Urbanism is considered environmentally friendly.

The Glen has a retail core called Glen Town Center with tons of shops, restaurants and a movie theater.  This three block area is located on Tower Drive that my family refers to as “Main Street”.  Within The Glen one also finds playgrounds, two golf courses, tennis courts, sports fields, Battery Park, Lake Glenview, Kohl Children’s Museum, and the Glenview Park Center with a health club, basketball courts, and a pre-school.  Residents from any of the various Glen neighborhoods can walk to any of these venues.

There are many housing types in The Glen including single family homes, condos, townhomes, row homes, duplexes and two-flats.  These homes offer an abundance of architectural styles to please most any taste.  We also have our own Metra train station for residents who need to reach the city for work or who want to take advantage of Chicago’s many cultural and sports offerings.

If The Glen sounds like kind of place where you would like to live, please contact me.  I am a long time Glen homeowner and an award winning Realtor.  I can be reached by phone at 847-401-1802 or by email at margaretludemann@gmail.com.
