Gallery Park in The Glen

October 19, 2016 by Margaret Ludemann

The Jewel of the Nile is a movie with Michael Douglas, and it’s an album by Nice & Smooth. The Jewel of the Seas is a cruise ship. Well, The Glen, a residential and retail development in Glenview Illinois, isn’t a movie, album or ship, but we do have a jewel. It’s called Gallery Park, smack dab in the middle of The Glen. It’s our jewel, and it’s here for all to see and all to enjoy.

Gallery Park is a large, beautiful public area with tons of things to see and do; and it is within easy walking distance of every home in The Glen.

There is Lake Glenview with a stunning lookout tower, great places to fish, piers that are handicap accessible, and a trail along water’s edge.

You’ll find tennis courts, soccer fields, and three walking/jogging paths.

The Glenview Park Center in the park offers swimming, basketball, an indoor walking and running track, and a fully equipped fitness center. It also offers dedicated yoga, Pilates and spin studios. Child care is available…and even a pre-school.

I love taking in a concert at the lakeside Amphitheater where the Glenview Symphony Orchestra plays regularly during summertime.

Little Bear Garden’s water spray and playground is a delightful place for small children to play. When my son was small child we went there (at his urging!) a couple of times each week.

A large meadow welcomes locals to stroll, play and to picnic.

The Glenview Freedom Memorial is located in the park as well as a memorial to the park’s namesake Admiral Daniel Gallery.

Gallery Park is more than what one typically thinks of as a park. It is the center of family life here in The Glen, used and loved by all.

Residents here treasure The Glen’s lifestyle…from the beautiful homes of all varieties to Glen Town Center’s dining and shopping and to the fun of its jewel…Gallery Park. If you are interested in living in The Glen, please contact me. I am a long time Glen homeowner and an award winning Realtor affiliated with The Glen Realty Group. I can tell you about the homes for sale, and about all of the wonderful amenities of Glen living.

Two large, stunning townhomes for sale in The Glen

October 12, 2016 by Margaret Ludemann

How often do you find townhomes larger than 3000 square feet? The answer is ‘not too often’. Currently, however, there are two such homes for sale in The Glen (in Glenview Illinois), and both are absolutely stunning!

The Glen is the magnificent residential and retail development on the grounds of the old Naval Air Station Glenview, a former military air base long ago closed down and demolished. There are over 1300 luxury homes in the development in nine distinct neighborhoods. All kinds of home types are available including single family homes, townhomes, row homes, condos, two-flats and duplexes. We also have a retail “Main Street” called Glen Town Center with wonderful shops, restaurants, coffee houses, and Arclight Cinema.

One of the Glen neighborhoods is called Tower Crossing which is composed of 154 brick townhomes. They range in size between 3,031 and 4,105 square feet. The two townhomes that I am so excited about are Astoria models with dramatic 13’ ceilings, hardwood floors, and a huge master suite with walk in closets.

2013 Valor Court, priced at $719,500, offers 3,210 square feet of luxury living. It has 3 bedrooms, 2.2 bathrooms, a wood burning fireplace in the living room, and a striking chef’s kitchen with cherry cabinets and granite counters…which opens to a lovely balcony overlooking a professionally landscaped courtyard.

1807 Admiral Court, priced at $774,900, has 4 bedrooms and 3.1 baths in its 3,500 square feet. This home is an End Unit meaning it connects to only one other home and has a third wall of windows. In fact, there are 33 windows in this remarkable townhome. Thirty-three! You will find very few townhomes as large and as bright at this beautiful property.

Both of these homes are within an easy walk of Glen Town Center, Battery Park, Lake Glenview, the Glenview Park Center, Kohl Children’s Museum, and The Glen Club Championship Golf Course. Tower Crossing is known for its “urban living in the suburbs” character. If you may be interested in either of these properties or living anywhere in The Glen, please contact me. Easy commutes and travel times from The Glen

June 22, 2016 by Margaret Ludemann

When my family and I moved to The Glen back in the early days of the development I didn’t pay much attention to travel times. I knew that Glenview, the village in which The Glen resides, is a relatively close-in community to the city (Chicago), but I didn’t know much else.

Neither my husband nor I was working in the city so easy access was not on our priority list. My husband was commuting Monday/Friday to Boston where he ran a software business, but he just assumed that the drive to and from O’Hare airport would be a mess…time consuming and nerve wracking. What we discovered was surprising and encouraging. Turns out that the Glen has its own Metra train station which gets us to the city for plays, concerts, shopping and Hawks games in just over a half an hour. And Glen residents can walk to the station in no time. Is that cool or what!

And to my husband’s astonishment, driving to or from O’Hare takes about twenty minutes. It doesn’t usually matter what time of day. It’s twenty minutes, give or take. I don’t know why. It doesn’t make sense. But it’s true. And on occasions when he preferred flying out of Milwaukee’s airport, he used Glenview’s station (a 3 minute drive from the Glen) and caught an Amtrak train that deposited him at Mitchell International in under an hour. Fifty-two minutes to be exact.

So, if you’re thinking about a move to The Glen – attracted to Glen Town Center’s shops, restaurants, movie theater, and summer concerts – you can also feel good about the time it takes to get most anywhere you may want or need to go. For information about homes for sale in The Glen please give me a call at 847-401-1802 or email me at MargaretLudemann@cbexchange.com.

Summer fun in The Glen

June 15, 2016 by Margaret Ludemann

Many of my blogs begin with “one of the great things about living in The Glen” (in Glenview Illinois). This one is no different. Today’s “great things” blog focuses on the wonderful opportunities that Glen residents have for summer fun with family and friends.

Right dab in the middle of Glen Town Center, The Glen’s retail and restaurant “main street”, you’ll find summer fun in the form of its annual Summer Concert Series. Each Tuesday from June 28 through August 30, bands perform in an outdoor setting, each starting at 6:30 p.m. There’s food to be purchased though many Glen residents bring their own along with a bottle of wine for mom and dad…and sodas for their kids. They spread a blanket, enjoy the wonderful weather, and listen to music which changes from week to week…sometimes rock and roll, sometimes country, sometimes golden oldies, and sometimes Top 40 hits. The first concert will feature Windy City Rev Ups, a high energy “rock and blues” group that frequently plays at the House of Blues in the city. And as all of us who live here know, Glen Town Center is within easy walking distance of any home in The Glen…from the single family homes in Southgate, Chapel Crossing, and Landings to the townhomes of Tower Crossing and other Glen neighborhoods.

On Wednesday evenings, only a five minute drive from The Glen, we enjoy another concert series in Jackman Park. The Concerts in the Park series is sponsored by the Village of Glenview. Tonight’s concert presents Fool House (pop hits from the 90’s), and the June 22 concert will offer the Motown, soul and rock and roll sound of Second Hand Soul Band.

So, for those of you who may be thinking about moving to The Glen, these concerts offer a nice opportunity to see this spectacular development up close. There are always homes for sale in The Glen, so if you want information on the local real estate market, give me a call at 847-401-1802 or email me atmargaretludemann@gmail.com. I am a long time Glen homeowner and an award-winning realtor.

Interest in buying homes starting early

February 3, 2016 by Margaret Ludemann

There are definite signs that buyers interested in purchasing homes are starting early this year. In a typical year, new contracts for home sales decline significantly after Thanksgiving, and the real estate market is dead through year end. Within a week or two after the New Year, we begin seeing a few buyers poke their heads up from the ice and snow. But any significant buyer interest is typically not noticeable until sometime in mid-February to early March.

This year is different. Not sure why, but it is. Here are two indications of early interest that I’ve seen just in the last week:

First, I listed a home a few days ago, and I had an offer that very day. And it was a good offer. In fact, the offer was made without the buyer seeing the home!

Second, my proprietary website, www.homesintheglen.com, had a near record number of first time visitors (556) last week! I haven’t seen that number of first time visitors since the top of the market last July; and it’s the second highest number ever on my site.

I should say that my Glen website, which shows homes for sale in The Glen in Glenview Illinois, is a very real barometer of buyer interest. It is the only Glen-specific, Glen-only website in existence, and it produces real home buyers. I have been able to track visitors to sales rather easily. So, let’s look at a comparison of that 556 visitor number to previous years. In the same week a year ago, the site had 336 first time visitors. And the year before that? 368.

This time of year there are fewer homes for sale, so sellers have an advantage of less competition. It looks like this year they’ll have more than the usual number of buyers looking at their homes.

If you are interested in selling your home or in buying, please give me a call. I am an award-winning Realtor affiliated with @properties in Glenview, Illinois.
