Glenbrook High School District, serving The Glen, named #1 in Illinois

August 8, 2019 by Margaret Ludemann

Yet another award for the high school serving The Glen and greater Glenview, Illinois!  In April, I wrote a blog about Glenbrook South High School receiving a Project Lead the Way Distinguished School Award.  Project Lead the Way is a non-profit that works with schools to promote excellence in computer science, engineering and bio-medical science.  A previous ranking by Niche.com named the school one of the top 30 in the country (the country!) and #1 for extracurricular activities.  Adding to those prestigious awards comes the recently announced recognition, also by Niche.com, naming Glenbrook High School District 225 as the best in Illinois with a rating of A+.

My son recently graduated from Glenbrook South High School, and he’ll be heading to college in a few weeks.  Those of us who live in The Glen are fortunate to have one of the best high schools in the nation to educate our children.  In fact, quality of schools was the principle reason my family moved here 16 years ago.

The Glen is a residential and retail development with luxury homes of all types including single family, town homes, row homes, duplexes, two-flats and condos.  If you want to learn more about living in The Glen and about homes for sale, please contact me.  I’m an award-winning Realtor focusing on Glen homes.

Large single family homes in Southgate in The Glen

April 15, 2019 by Margaret Ludemann

There’s roughly the same number of single family homes and attached homes in The Glen in Glenview, a North Shore suburban village close to Chicago.  Attached homes are townhomes, row homes, duplexes, two-flats and condos.  Of The Glen’s ten neighborhoods with privately-owned homes, five offer single family homes which is today’s blog topic.  Home prices for single family homes range from the $600s to over $2 million.

The largest single family homes are found in the Southgate development.  Southgate offers 237 homes ranging in size from 2600 to over 5000 square feet.  Fifty-five Estate Homes on lots of at least 1/3 of an acre border The Glen Club’s award-winning golf course, so the views are amazing.  The other 182 homes are found on Southgate’s lovely winding streets with large, beautiful trees and landscaping.

Southgate even has its own playground for small children.  It’s a private area for Southgate residents only.  Naturally this development, as with all Glen neighborhoods, is close to Glen Town Center’s many restaurants and shops as well as its movie theater and book store.  All in all, Southgate is hard to beat.

If you’re interested in large, beautiful homes, let me take you to Southgate to look around.  There are several homes for sale.

Bangers & mash in The Glen

October 25, 2018 by Margaret Ludemann

The Glen, in Glenview, got a new restaurant yesterday, one with the intriguing name of Elephant & Castle.  While the name means nothing in a literal sense, it evokes images of British pubs with similarly odd and interesting names.  And, yes, that’s the point.  Elephant & Castle is a Brit pub-themed eatery and watering hole in the spot previously occupied by State and Main.

Knowing that yesterday (10.25.18) was opening day, my husband and I walked over for dinner from our Tower Crossing townhome that is adjacent to Glen Town Center.  Sure, there were a few first day hiccups, but that’s to be expected.  We each had a wonderful meal which suggests a bright future where State and Main couldn’t eat into the business of ever-popular Yard House.  (pun intended!)  Here’s a link to the menu https://www.elephantcastle.com/home/glenview

Bottom line:  Elephant & Castle, at 1941 Tower Drive, is a great addition to The Glen’s many restaurants so enjoyed by Glenview residents and those who come from throughout Chicagoland’s North Shore for an evening in Glen Town Center.  Whether it’s Yorkshire pudding or bangers and mash with a pint, you should give it a try.

If you would like to know more about The Glen, particularly it’s wonderful homes for sale, give me a call at 847-401-1802 or go to my Glen website, www.homesintheglen.com.  I am an award-winning Realtor and Glen homeowner.

Curious about Tower Crossing in The Glen?

August 28, 2018 by Margaret Ludemann

“Admit it.  You’re curious.”  So said the sign draped over the Optima condo complex in Skokie.  The building looks like it’s all glass, and indeed whenever I drove on I-94, I was curious.

The same goes for a terrific neighborhood in The Glen (in Glenview, Illinois, called Tower Crossing.  The development is adjacent to Glen Town Center’s many shops and restaurants.  There are 154 four-story Georgian brick townhomes in Tower Crossing, and as a homeowner I’ve seen countless people stare at these wonderful homes with obvious curiosity.  They don’t look like most townhomes.  First of all, they are huge, ranging in size from 3031 sq ft to 4105 sq ft.  Much larger than most townhomes! And the brick designs of the six models are creative and quite different than any townhome complex I’ve ever seen.

One day I was sitting on my front porch when a passerby asked me what level of my home I live on.  Huh?  I explained that the entire home was a single unit.  She didn’t believe me.  She speculated whether each townhome had three or four apartment units.  I explained that every Tower Crossing property, regardless of model, was a single unit with four stories.  She said I was wrong.  Even though I’ve lived in my townhome for 15 years, and as a Realtor who has sold more Tower Crossing homes than any other realtor, I explained that I knew everything about every model…and all were individual homes. For some reason she couldn’t get her brain around that one.

While many people are curious about Tower Crossing, my neighbors and I know that this is a great place to live.  Our homes are beautiful inside and out.  Most have three bedrooms, though some have two and others have four.  We can walk easily and quickly to all of The Glen’s restaurants, shops, Arclight Cinema and the local Metra train station.  It’s kind of like urban living, but in the suburbs with great schools and easy access to downtown Chicago and O’Hare airport.

If you, like so many people who walk around my neighborhood, are curious, let me show you some of the homes that are for sale or rent.  Tower Crossing prices range from in the $600’s to over $800,000.  Just send me an email at margaretludemann@gmail.com or call me at 847-401-1802

The 4th of July in The Glen

July 9, 2018 by Margaret Ludemann

The marching bands.  The floats.  Candy thrown to children.  It was the 4th of July in my town, Glenview Illinois.

What a wonderful 4th of July in Glenview again this year, and the parade drew a huge crowd as always.  People from throughout our village – many from The Glen – came out to celebrate our nation’s founding and what it is to be an American.  There were kids.  Tons of kids.  Moms, dads and grandparents, too.  It was a family affair that everyone will long remember.

Flags.  I’ve never seen so many flags!  They hung from lamp posts and windows.  They were draped on floats and carried by veterans, firefighters and many others marching along the parade route.  I particularly loved the marching bands with Glenbrook South High School’s award-winning band leading the way.  They played The Star Spangled Banner and other patriotic songs.  Those in the crowd stood, men took off their hats, and many sang, applauded and put a hand over their heart.

When evening arrived village residents poured into The Glen to see the fireworks.  The Glen’s Gallery Park was the scene.  It’s a large park so there was plenty of room for lawn chairs and blankets.  And space for kids to run and play.  The park is bordered on three sides by four of the nine residential developments in The Glen:  Cambridge, Tower Crossing, Landings and Chapel Crossing.  My family and I watched it from our townhome in Tower Crossing.  It was an amazing scene.

If you would like to know more about living in The Glen or greater Glenview, give me a call.  There are many beautiful homes for sale…single family homes, townhomes, row homes, duplexes, two-flats and condos.  I’m an award-winning Realtor and a long time Glen homeowner.
