Glenbrook South High School receives a prestigious award…again!

The public high school serving students living in The Glen and greater Glenview is award-winning Glenbrook South High School.  Over the years it has received many awards for its excellence in educating area students from grades 9 through 12.  In fact, only two years ago software company Niche, using data from the U.S. Department of Education, analyzed and compared American high schools and named GBS the 30th best public high school in the country and the #1 high school for extracurricular activities.

Recently, GBS received yet another award.  It has been named a Project Lead The Way Distinguished School.  The award recognizes its successful efforts to increase student access, engagement, and achievement in its computer science, biomedical science and engineering program.  This is the second consecutive year that GBS has been recognized for this achievement.

As a Glen homeowner and parent of a GBS senior, I am very proud of our local high school.  In fact, the quality of area schools is the very reason why my family chose to move to The Glen 16 years ago.  The Glen is the upscale retail and housing development on the grounds of the former Naval Air Station Glenview.  We have beautiful homes of every kind with home prices ranging from the $300’s to over $2 million.  If your family has children, you should consider living here, too.  I am an award-winning local Realtor, and I would love to show you around.

The Glen…Convenient to Everything

My husband and I recently purchased a condo in his home town of Omaha.  It’s for investment purposes, at least for now.  Someday way down the road after I retire, we may use it personally as well as keeping our home here in The Glen (in the north shore community of Glenview).

Why do I mention this?  Well, because we chose a location very much like The Glen.  By that I mean, the condo is within walking distance of restaurants, shopping, and a movie theater.  After living in The Glen, we couldn’t imagine spending time – full or part – in a place that doesn’t have this level of convenience.

Our Glen home is a half-block from a great pizza place, Your Pie.  Within the three-block long main street called Tower Drive, we have a choice of numerous restaurants, wonderful shops, Arclight Cinema, Kohl Children’s Museum, a laundry, ice cream parlor, Starbucks and so much more.  We can even walk to a Metra train station that gets us to Chicago’s loop in 30 – 45 minutes.  If I wasn’t a Realtor, I’m not sure we would even own a car.

The Glen is America’s 7th fastest growing high-income neighborhood: Bloomberg

Bloomberg, the prestigious business publication, today reported that The Glen has been the 7th fastest growing high-income neighborhood in America since 2000.  The Glen, on the grounds of the former Glenview Naval Air Station, is a wonderful retail and residential development in the Chicago north shore village of Glenview.  It is also my home.  I purchased a home here in the early days of the development back in 2003.  Here is a link to the Bloomberg article, and if you are interested in living in The Glen please let me know.

Spend the Holidays in Glen Town Center

The Holiday Season is in full swing in Glen Town Center, and there’s nowhere I’d rather be!  All of our upscale stores and Glen restaurants are decorated beautifully, and our streets are colorful and vibrant with twinkling lights and holiday decorations!  We have many events and activities planned for this holiday season.

  • Photos with Santa will be available (BYOC) at The Book Market on December 1st from 1 – 3pm.
  • An interactive book reading for kids will be at the Book Market on December 6 at 10:30am.
  • One of Santa’s real, live reindeer will stop by for kids to see on December 8 & 9 from 10 – 2.
  • The kids can have breakfast with Santa on December 8 & 9 at 10am. Advanced registration is required at TheGlenTownCenter.com.

New Census of The Glen in Glenview

Each year a census is done of The Glen by the Village of Glenview.  The new census was released recently, and it is very interesting reading.  Here are the highlights:

  • There are 2,446 homes in The Glen.
  • 5,545 people live in the 14 Glen neighborhoods, 10 of which have privately-owned homes of many varieties including single family homes, townhomes, row homes, duplexes, two-flats and condos.
  • Of the 5,545 residents, 1,304 are children. 1,036 Glen kids are enrolled in schools, the others are not yet of school age.
  • 85% of Glen children are enrolled in Glenview’s award-winning public schools grades K – 12; that’s 885 kids.  15% of the school-aged children are in non-public schools; that’s 151.

The Glen is a wonderful place to live.  Home prices range from the high $300s to over $2 million.  Our Glen Town Center offers great places to eat, shop and be entertained.  We have our own Metra stop which gets residents to the Loop in 30 – 45 minutes depending on time of day.  And we’re under a half hour to O’Hare International Airport.
