Bloomberg, the prestigious business publication, today reported that The Glen has been the 7th fastest growing high-income neighborhood in America since 2000. The Glen, on the grounds of the former Glenview Naval Air Station, is a wonderful retail and residential development in the Chicagonorth shore village of Glenview. It is also my home. I purchased a home here in the early days of the development back in 2003. Here is a link to the Bloomberg article, and if you are interested in living in The Glen please let me know.

In the relatively early days of The Glen (2002), a very cool movie was filmed here, Uncle Nino, starring Chicago native Joe Mantegna and Golden Globe winner Anne Archer. The location scout told the Chicago Tribune, “The producer wanted a setting that looked like the perfect all-American dream neighborhood.” They found it in the Southgate On the Glen neighborhood. Joe Mantegna told the Trib, ““This whole place is almost like a movie set. I had been here when it was the naval air station. But what’s happened is unbelievable.” The movie shot here for more than three weeks with many locals used as extra, and it was released in 2003. Uncle Nino can be purchased at Amazon, and Amazon Prime members can watch it for free. The following is from Roger Ebert’s review:
“The loudest danger signal for Uncle Nino, after he arrives from Italy to visit his dead brother’s family, is that the wine comes from a cardboard box with a spigot. There are other problems. The nephew and his wife are both working too hard, the kids are on the edge of rebellion, and the household has no dog. Obviously, a family in crisis; obviously, Uncle Nino is the solution. He will return them all to their old-world roots, and reawaken their sense of family.”
The Glen in Glenview is still a dream neighborhood, actually several neighborhoods each with its own distinct architecture and personality. We have single family homes, townhomes, row homes, duplexes, two-flats and condos. Home prices range from the high $300s to over $2 million. To learn more, give me a call.

The Glen, in Glenview, got a new restaurant yesterday, one with the intriguing name of Elephant & Castle. While the name means nothing in a literal sense, it evokes images of British pubs with similarly odd and interesting names. And, yes, that’s the point. Elephant & Castle is a Brit pub-themed eatery and watering hole in the spot previously occupied by State and Main.
Knowing that yesterday (10.25.18) was opening day, my husband and I walked over for dinner from our Tower Crossingtownhome that is adjacent to Glen Town Center. Sure, there were a few first day hiccups, but that’s to be expected. We each had a wonderful meal which suggests a bright future where State and Main couldn’t eat into the business of ever-popular Yard House. (pun intended!) Here’s a link to the menu https://www.elephantcastle.com/home/glenview
Bottom line: Elephant & Castle, at 1941 Tower Drive, is a great addition to The Glen’s many restaurants so enjoyed by Glenview residents and those who come from throughout Chicagoland’s North Shore for an evening in Glen Town Center. Whether it’s Yorkshire pudding or bangers and mash with a pint, you should give it a try.
