First dates…in The Glen

September 20, 2016 by Margaret Ludemann

My husband bought our movie tickets on our first date. It was in the city, long ago. Of course he wasn’t my husband then, but I remember thinking he was off to a good start. ‘Splitting the bill’ seemed to be the thing back then, or maybe I had been seeing the wrong guys. Now that I think about it, I’m sure I had been seeing the wrong guys. Anyway, my memory of that evening remains strong, and I bet you remember yours, too.

So, what’s that have to do with a blog about The Glen? Read on.

Fast forward. My family has lived in The Glen (in Glenview Illinois) since nearly its beginning. And what a great place to live! 1300 luxury homes. Gallery Park. Lake Glenview. Two golf courses. A vibrant “downtown” area called Glen Town Center with upscale shopping, tons of great restaurants, a coffee shop, and – you guessed it – a cool movie theater…perfect for first dates or even 50th anniversaries.

It’s a place where well-behaved kids can “hang out” on a Friday night. (Sometimes first dates involve a lot of people and much hanging out.) They eat mac and cheese at Noodles or pizza at Your Pie, catch the latest superhero movie at Arclight Cinema, get ice cream at Ben and Jerry’s or cookies at Cookies By Design. It’s a safe place where they can see friends, talk about homecoming, and maybe, just maybe, fall in love for the first time.

It’s also a place where those of us of a certain age can hang out, too. We might get a drink at Flight Wine Bar, dinner at Bravo Cucina Italiana, catch the new non-superhero movie, and have a late night cappuccino at Starbucks. We might even hold hands walking back to our beautiful Glen home; or, if it’s a first date, back to the car to plan a second date.

Since I live about 30 steps from Glen Town Center I see a lot of first dates. Second dates and long term anniversaries, too. The Glen…it’s a great place to fall in love for the first time. Or fall in love all over again.

The layout of The Glen…more than beautiful homes

September 15, 2016 by Margaret Ludemann

While The Glen (in Glenview Illinois) is principally known for its 1300 luxury homes in nine neighborhoods, you will find retail, commercial and professional areas as well. This impressive development, now about 15 years old, was laid out thoughtfully and with great care. The arrangement of these various and distinct areas works to the benefit of Glen residents and of visitors who come for its first class dining, recreation, entertainment, and services.

Just as there are unique residential neighborhoods in the Glen, there are distinct retail areas, too. On the south end of The Glen, you will find an upscale shopping plaza anchored by the Jewel Osco grocery store and pharmacy. There is a Little Gym franchise for kids, Glen Spa and Nails, a dentist (Dr. Suh, who is loved and admired by all), H & R Block tax services, Lauren’s Cleaners, and two restaurants.

Glen Town Center is The Glen’s “Main Street”. It offers numerous restaurants, boutiques, the Arclight Cinema, a coffee house, two ice cream/yogurt parlors, and much more.

Just north of Glen proper, separated from every other part of the community by Willow Road, you’ll find Costco and Home Depot. This area is physically separate and aesthetically very different from the main part of the Glen, but the convenience of these popular retailers is greatly valued by Glen residents.

Commercial and professional offices in the Glen may be found north of Glen Town Center and south of Willow Road. Many different types of business are located here, as well as numerous doctors’ offices. There is even a walk-in Northwestern Medical outpatient clinic.

So that’s the layout of The Glen. It’s a great place to own a home, shop, visit for entertainment, receive medical care, and do business. If you may be interested in living in The Glen, please contact me. I am an original homeowner in the Tower Crossing townhome neighborhood and an award-winning Realtor affiliated with @properties. I can be reached at 847-401-1802 or margaretludemann@gmail.com.

6. Count them. 6 bedroom home in The Glen

May 2, 2016 by Margaret Ludemann

Single family homes with six bedrooms are hard to find.  And the one I am writing about today is particularly uncommon.  When you imagine a home with this many bedrooms you might think about a three story home with three bedrooms on each of the top two floors.  But that’s not the case here.

1592 Primrose, a stunning, two-story Colonial home in the highly sought-after Landings neighborhood in The Glen (in Glenview, Illinois), has a main floor bedroom with ensuite bath AND a master bedroom, also with ensuite bath, on the second floor.  In other words, it has what can be described as two master bedrooms…perhaps using the one on the first floor as an in-law suite.  That’s unusual…and unusually attractive to many buyers.

This home also offers five full bathrooms and a first floor powder room.  There is a lovely formal living room with fireplace, a stately dining room, an office, and a walk-in pantry. The kitchen is designed for entertaining, consisting of two islands with granite counters, a breakfast area, and a wet bar. There are new wood floors in the main living areas.

The second floor is home to the other bedrooms, a loft with built-in desk, and a laundry room. The garage has been extended for three cars; and the backyard offers a children’s play area and a lovely paver patio.

1592 Primrose is close to everything The Glen has to offer. It is a short walk to Gallery Park, Lake Glenview, the Glenview Park Center, Little Bear Garden, and Glen Town Center’s many restaurants, shops, and Arclight Cinema. It is also in close proximity to The Glen’s Metra station, The Glen Club’s championship golf course, Glenview Prairie Club (golf and paddle tennis), and a Jewell Osco grocery store & pharmacy.

This beautiful home is offered for sale at $1,169,000. For more information please contact me at margaretludemann@gmail.com or 847-401-1802.

Kids in The Glen

December 8, 2015 by Margaret Ludemann

Kids. Lots of them. Right here in The Glen!

In fact we have 1,336 children (ages birth through the 12th grade) in the 1,254 privately owned homes in this upscale residential and retail community in Glenview Illinois. As a long time Glen resident and as a Realtor who focuses heavily on The Glen, I know what a wonderful place this is for children. I have a 15 year old son who has grown up here, and he loves everything about it. Gallery Park, Lake Glenview, soccer fields, tennis courts, Kohl Children’s Museum, Arclight Movie Theater, and so much more.

We have eight developments with privately owned homes in The Glen, not counting Westgate which is under construction. Here is a breakdown of children in each:

Chapel Crossing: 167 homes 284 kids 1.7 kids p/home

Landings: 143 homes 236 kids 1.65 kids p/home

Southgate: 299 homes 413 kids 1.38 kids p/ home

Cambridge: 244 homes 234 kids 0.96 kids p/home

Regency: 148 homes 76 kids 0.51 kids p/home

Tower Crossing: 154 homes 73 kids 0.47 kids p/home

Patriot Commons: 68 homes 16 kids 0.24 kids p/home

Glen Shore: 31 homes 4 kids 0.13 kids p/home

Not surprisingly the developments with the most single family homes have the highest percentage of children p/home: Chapel Crossing and Landings. Southgate and Cambridge have a mix of single family homes and attached housing. On the other end of the spectrum, the developments with the most attached housing (mainly townhomes and condos) have the lowest percentage of children p/home: Tower Crossing, Regency, Patriot Commons and Glen Shore.

If you would like to know more about The Glen please give me a call.
