Curious about Tower Crossing in The Glen?

August 28, 2018 by Margaret Ludemann

“Admit it.  You’re curious.”  So said the sign draped over the Optima condo complex in Skokie.  The building looks like it’s all glass, and indeed whenever I drove on I-94, I was curious.

The same goes for a terrific neighborhood in The Glen (in Glenview, Illinois, called Tower Crossing.  The development is adjacent to Glen Town Center’s many shops and restaurants.  There are 154 four-story Georgian brick townhomes in Tower Crossing, and as a homeowner I’ve seen countless people stare at these wonderful homes with obvious curiosity.  They don’t look like most townhomes.  First of all, they are huge, ranging in size from 3031 sq ft to 4105 sq ft.  Much larger than most townhomes! And the brick designs of the six models are creative and quite different than any townhome complex I’ve ever seen.

One day I was sitting on my front porch when a passerby asked me what level of my home I live on.  Huh?  I explained that the entire home was a single unit.  She didn’t believe me.  She speculated whether each townhome had three or four apartment units.  I explained that every Tower Crossing property, regardless of model, was a single unit with four stories.  She said I was wrong.  Even though I’ve lived in my townhome for 15 years, and as a Realtor who has sold more Tower Crossing homes than any other realtor, I explained that I knew everything about every model…and all were individual homes. For some reason she couldn’t get her brain around that one.

While many people are curious about Tower Crossing, my neighbors and I know that this is a great place to live.  Our homes are beautiful inside and out.  Most have three bedrooms, though some have two and others have four.  We can walk easily and quickly to all of The Glen’s restaurants, shops, Arclight Cinema and the local Metra train station.  It’s kind of like urban living, but in the suburbs with great schools and easy access to downtown Chicago and O’Hare airport.

If you, like so many people who walk around my neighborhood, are curious, let me show you some of the homes that are for sale or rent.  Tower Crossing prices range from in the $600’s to over $800,000.  Just send me an email at margaretludemann@gmail.com or call me at 847-401-1802

Convenience

March 26, 2018 by Margaret Ludemann

Unless you live in a very small town, odds are that you need to drive to most everything. Contrast that with the convenience of The Glen in Glenview Illinois where residents can walk to shopping, dining, recreation, entertainment, public transportation and even medical care.

Glen Town Center, walkable from any home in The Glen, is The Glen’s “main street” filled with restaurants, ice cream parlors, coffee shops, a book store, Arclight Movie Theater and tons of shopping in stores large and small.

But that’s only the tip of the iceberg. Consider this. Folks lucky enough to live in The Glen can also walk to two golf courses. Two! And to Gallery Park’s jogging trails, tennis courts and fishing in Lake Glenview. Take the kids to Kohl Children’s Museum or Funtopia or to The Book Market’s Puppet Theater and Story Time.

Walk to Park Center, our local fitness facility that also offers basketball courts, pre-school and summer camps. We have an award-winning middle school here in The Glen, too. And in summer time residents walk to our several festivals and to our weekly summer outdoor concerts.  If you want to go to Chicago‘s many attractions (or to work) just stroll over to our Metra train station.

The Glen also has many doctors, dentists and even a fully functioning health clinic.

Does all of this sound too good to be true? Well, unless you live here it probably does. If you are interested in living in The Glen please give me a call. I am a long time Glen homeowner and a Realtor selling Glen homes.

Summer Concerts in The Glen and Greater Glenview

July 27, 2017 by Margaret Ludemann

Think of them as mini-Ravinias…without the crowds and parking hassles.  Let me explain.

Glenview has a lot to do and see any time of year, but in summer it really comes alive.  My daughter-in-law Jenny and her two kids are coming to town in a few days.  Naturally, we’ll go into the city to ride the Ferris Wheel, take pictures at The Bean and visit the Field Museum.  But after exhausting ourselves in Chicago and visits locally to Wagner Farm and The Grove, I’m looking forward to spending a family night at one of our town’s weekly outdoor concerts.

On Tuesday’s it’s hard to beat the Summer Sounds Series on the green space along Navy Boulevard in The Glen.  Kids will get their faces painted and will treasure balloon animals created just for them. And a band will play music that all can enjoy. Attendees can pick up some food at any one of the 17 Glen restaurants, and after the show go shopping in the various boutiques and stores in Glen Town Center.  These concerts attract homeowners from the roughly 2,000 homes in The Glen and from throughout Glenview.

And if it’s Wednesday, it’s Jackman Park for the park district’s Summer Concert Series, always a fun evening. Blankets will be spread on the ground for kids while moms and dads relax on lawn chairs.

These are not what you would call huge events.  In fact, calling them “concerts” is even a bit of an exaggeration.  Basically, they are down home get-togethers of friends and family…or you can think of them as community picnics with live music.  Whatever you call them, call them fun.

The layout of The Glen…more than beautiful homes

September 15, 2016 by Margaret Ludemann

While The Glen (in Glenview Illinois) is principally known for its 1300 luxury homes in nine neighborhoods, you will find retail, commercial and professional areas as well. This impressive development, now about 15 years old, was laid out thoughtfully and with great care. The arrangement of these various and distinct areas works to the benefit of Glen residents and of visitors who come for its first class dining, recreation, entertainment, and services.

Just as there are unique residential neighborhoods in the Glen, there are distinct retail areas, too. On the south end of The Glen, you will find an upscale shopping plaza anchored by the Jewel Osco grocery store and pharmacy. There is a Little Gym franchise for kids, Glen Spa and Nails, a dentist (Dr. Suh, who is loved and admired by all), H & R Block tax services, Lauren’s Cleaners, and two restaurants.

Glen Town Center is The Glen’s “Main Street”. It offers numerous restaurants, boutiques, the Arclight Cinema, a coffee house, two ice cream/yogurt parlors, and much more.

Just north of Glen proper, separated from every other part of the community by Willow Road, you’ll find Costco and Home Depot. This area is physically separate and aesthetically very different from the main part of the Glen, but the convenience of these popular retailers is greatly valued by Glen residents.

Commercial and professional offices in the Glen may be found north of Glen Town Center and south of Willow Road. Many different types of business are located here, as well as numerous doctors’ offices. There is even a walk-in Northwestern Medical outpatient clinic.

So that’s the layout of The Glen. It’s a great place to own a home, shop, visit for entertainment, receive medical care, and do business. If you may be interested in living in The Glen, please contact me. I am an original homeowner in the Tower Crossing townhome neighborhood and an award-winning Realtor affiliated with @properties. I can be reached at 847-401-1802 or margaretludemann@gmail.com.

The Glen…a “neighborly” place to live

April 26, 2016 by Margaret Ludemann

I’ve lived in The Glen housing development in Glenview Illinois for 13 years, and I’m an original homeowner in the Tower Crossing townhome neighborhood. One of the really fun things about living in my neighborhood is what we call “mailbox parties”. My home is one of 44 homes sharing a large, beautifully landscaped, oval-shaped courtyard. The backs of our townhomes face this serene, park-like setting with lush green grass and large trees. Oh, it also contains…our mailboxes.

From time to time – usually monthly – one neighbor or another announces that a mailbox party will be held on a particular evening with all Valor Court and Valor Drive residents invited. Everyone brings food and drink to share along with big smiles and stories to tell. In the winter, our mailbox parties move inside, sometimes to the Glenview Golf & Paddle clubhouse across the street, sometimes to the Curragh pub, and yet other times to one of our homes. In this way we have created a very neighborly place to live.

Other parts of The Glen have similar traditions. Many of the homes in the Landings neighborhood have adjacent backyards, not only side-by-side, but also back-to-back. It’s common in summertime to see neighbors sharing evenings together “out back”…grilling, sharing drinks, and watching their children run to and fro.

The Chapel Crossing neighborhood is home to Independence Avenue, a long, wide street with a common area dividing its two sides. This green space is a perfect place for neighbors to congregate, particularly on nights when someone has arranged for an ice cream truck to appear at an appointed time. An email goes out to over 800 Glen families announcing the day and time, and there is always a good crowd of neighbors enjoying not only the sweets, but also (mainly) each other.

This kind of thing happens throughout The Glen. Sure, The Glen is known for its beautiful homes, fine restaurants, trendy boutiques, Lake Glenview, and Gallery Park; but the real fun of living here is its neighborly character. It’s a great place…for ice cream socials, backyard bar-b-ques, and yes, even mailbox parties.

If you may be interested in living in The Glen, please give me a call. I am an award-winning Realtor with expert knowledge of the neighborhoods, homes, and lifestyle.
