Two large, stunning townhomes for sale in The Glen

How often do you find townhomes larger than 3000 square feet? The answer is ‘not too often’. Currently, however, there are two such homes for sale in The Glen (in Glenview Illinois), and both are absolutely stunning!

The Glen is the magnificent residential and retail development on the grounds of the old Naval Air Station Glenview, a former military air base long ago closed down and demolished. Summer fun in The Glen

Many of my blogs begin with “one of the great things about living in The Glen” (in Glenview Illinois). This one is no different. Today’s “great things” blog focuses on the wonderful opportunities that Glen residents have for summer fun with family and friends.

Right dab in the middle of Glen Town Center, The Glen’s retail and restaurant “main street”, you’ll find summer fun in the form of its annual Summer Concert Series. Each Tuesday from June 28 through August 30, bands perform in an outdoor setting, each starting at 6:30 p.m. There’s food to be purchased though many Glen residents bring their own along with a bottle of wine for mom and dad…and sodas for their kids. They spread a blanket, enjoy the wonderful weather, and listen to music which changes from week to week…sometimes rock and roll, sometimes country, sometimes golden oldies, and sometimes Top 40 hits. The first concert will feature Windy City Rev Ups, a high energy “rock and blues” group that frequently plays at the House of Blues in the city. And as all of us who live here know, Glen Town Center is within easy walking distance of any home in The Glen…from the single family homes in Southgate, Chapel Crossing, and Landings to the townhomes of Tower Crossing and other Glen neighborhoods.

On Wednesday evenings, only a five minute drive from The Glen, we enjoy another concert series in Jackman Park. The Concerts in the Park series is sponsored by the Village of Glenview. Tonight’s concert presents Fool House (pop hits from the 90’s), and the June 22 concert will offer the Motown, soul and rock and roll sound of Second Hand Soul Band.

22 Luxury Homes For Sale in The Glen

If you’ve thought about living in The Glen one day, now’s a pretty good time to make your move. There are currently 22 homes on the market for sale, and there are always some available rentals as well.

The Glen in Glenview Illinois is a very special place to live. This development, built on the former grounds of Naval Air Station Glenview, offers luxury homes of all varieties, first class shopping, wonderful restaurants, a movie theater, Gallery Park, Lake Glenview, 2 golf courses, and so much more.

There are several residential developments within the Glen offering properties of every variety, including single family homes, townhomes, condos, two-flats, and duplexes. Currently, there are 11 single family homes on the market ranging in price from $749,000 to $2,199,000. These are large homes, from 3,000 square feet to…well, to HUGE!

Ten luxury townhomes are for sale. They range from about 1700 square feet to 3840 square feet. The prices start at $469,000 and go up to $819,000. Incidentally, that home at $819,000 is a real showplace…and it even has an elevator!

One condo apartment is for sale currently. For $449,000 you can buy 1521 square feet of luxury living.

Glenview, one of the safest cities in the U.S.

Safety. You’ll find few other factors more important to home buyers. And here’s some great news for homeowners in The Glen, a residential and retail development in Glenview, Illinois. Glenview is ranked the 37th safest city in the United States!

OK, let’s put that in perspective. According to U.S. Census Bureau statistics, there are 19,354 incorporated communities in the country. So, Glenview is in the top 0.0019% of American cities in safety. Rare air, indeed.

So, where did this ranking come from? As you know, lists of ‘top this’ and ‘top that’ appear regularly, often from sources with, shall we say, ulterior motives and questionable credibility. But that’s not the case here. Neighborhood Scout is a national neighborhood search engine and provider of location-based analytics for real estate investors, mortgage professionals, and home buyers.

The rankings are determined by factoring in data from over 18,000 law enforcement agencies, and ratings are assigned for various types of crime, such as murder, robbery, assault, burglary, and theft. Looking at the list of the Top 100 safe cities, we find that the safest places to live are in areas where residents can afford to relocate for quality of life. These tend to be bedroom communities near major cities, with low unemployment, high educational attainment, and great schools such as those found in Glenview. (In a future blog, I’m going to analyze Glenbrook South High School’s recent high ranking.)

Great schools serve children living in The Glen

A dozen years ago my family and I were moving back to the Chicago area after living in Boston for a few years. We began our home search in downtown Chicago where we had previously lived. But the more we thought about it the more our focus turned to school quality, and that led us to The Glen in the near-by north shore community of Glenview.

We have been thrilled with the schools here. Our son recently graduated from Attea Middle School located in The Glen, and one week from today he’ll start high school at Glenbrook South. GBS, as it’s known, is one of the highest ranked high schools in the country. Academics are strong, and the offerings go well beyond the normal curriculum one finds in most high schools. For instance the foreign language program offers courses in five languages. Five! French, Spanish, German, Japanese, and Mandarin Chinese. Oh, and American Sign Language. I guess that makes six languages. My son will be taking Japanese, and he can’t wait. Many of his friends will also participate in the Glenbrook Academy of International Studies in English, Social Studies, and World Languages. And the results? Well, 95% of graduates go on to college; the average ACT score is 25; and 89% of students earn AP scores to qualify for college credit.

The GBS experience, though, goes well beyond the classroom. There are 48 clubs at GBS. My son will be joining the fencing club and a few others. Yes, there is a fencing club. Imagine that. And it gets even better. If a student wants a club that doesn’t yet exist, he or she is encouraged to start one. In addition to clubs, GBS offers 8 boys sports and 14 girls sports. There is something for everyone in this outstanding high school.

So, if you are thinking about a move, you should take a long look at The Glen. Homes of all kinds are available including single family homes, condos, townhomes, row homes, duplexes, and two-flats.
