Walk to 15 restaurants in The Glen

September 8, 2016 by Margaret Ludemann

Let’s see, my son is at a school event until 9 p.m. My husband and I are tired tonight, and neither of us is in the mood to cook. What shall we do? Oh yeah, we live in The Glen where we can walk to fifteen restaurants. Not a typo. Fifteen places to eat within a couple of blocks of our home in The Glen!

The Glen is an upscale residential and retail development in Glenview Illinois, a close-to-Chicago, north shore suburban village. Early stages of development began about 16 years ago, and we still have some new construction in one of our nine Glen neighborhoods. The Glen community was inspired by the concept called new urbanism, a planning scheme that revives cities and reinvents suburbs. It’s based on the way cities and towns were built for centuries before the development of sprawling suburbs and cul-de-sacs. Homes in close proximity to shops, restaurants and services. More walking, less driving. Nearby public spaces. Everything within a ten minute stroll. That’s The Glen!

My family and I live in a townhome development, Tower Crossing, that borders Glen Town Center, our retail “main street”. Our choices tonight are varied. We can eat Thai, Italian, Mexican, sandwiches & wraps, burgers & fries, steaks, vegetarian or pizza. If I could convince my husband, we could even go to a sushi bar or to a wine bar with an upscale dining menu. (That’s my choice!) Here is a link to Glen Town Center’s website where you can find a list of all Glen restaurants and their menus. http://www.theglentowncenter.com/dine.html

47 homes sold in The Glen so far in 2016

August 22, 2016 by Margaret Ludemann

Forty-seven homes have sold (or have gone under contract to sell) so far in 2016 in The Glen. The Glen is a development in Glenview Illinois on land that was formerly the Naval Air Station Glenview. It consists of numerous residential neighborhoods with luxury single family homes, townhomes, row homes, condos, two-flats and duplexes. It also offers upscale shopping, many excellent restaurants, two golf courses, and a large park.

The Regency neighborhood which consists of townhomes and duplexes led the pack with 13 sales. Cambridge, with single family homes, row homes, two flats and duplexes, had 9 sales, followed by Southgate’s 11 sales (7 single family homes and 4 townhomes). Tower Crossing and Westgate each experienced 5 sales. Tower Crossing offers 154 very large, luxury townhomes; Westgate is a new development with single family homes, row homes and townhomes. There were 4 sales in Patriot Commons; 3 in Chapel Crossing; and 2 in Landings.

If you’re interested in living in The Glen, please contact me at 847-401-1802 or by email atmargaretludemann@gmail.com. I am a long time Glen resident and an award-winning Realtor affiliated with @properties.

The Glen’s Art Fair…fun again in 2016

August 8, 2016 by Margaret Ludemann

The Glen is home to an annual art fair called, as you can imagine, The Glen Art Fair. Fortunately, the artists who display their work here are a good bit more creative that whoever named the event. Anyway, it was held this past weekend, August 6 and 7, and as always it was a very big success. This fun event attracted scores of artists from throughout the United States to Tower Drive, Glen Town Center’s “main street”.  Attendance was high, and as they say, a good time was had by all.

The Glen is the north shore’s premier lifestyle community, meaning it has beautiful homes, an outstanding array of restaurants, upscale shopping, jogging trails, golf courses, tennis courts, and a picturesque lake.  It is located on the site of the former Glenview Naval Air Station in Glenview, Illinois, approximately 18 miles north of downtown Chicago.

Visitors to the fair were treated to art of many genres including paintings, photography, sculpture, glass works, folk art, crafts, cartooning, digital art, and even what is known as “wearable art”. In fact, as I’m typing this blog, I’m wearing a striking blouse that I purchased at last year’s fair. I live in the Glen’s Tower Crossing development only a block away from the fair!

This will all occur again next August. You might want to jot it down in your calendar. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it as much as those of us who are fortunate homeowners and residents of The Glen. And if you may be interested in living in the Glen, please give me a call. I am a local realtor who specializes in Glen properties – single family homes, row homes, town homes, two flats, duplexes and condos.

Summer fun in The Glen

June 15, 2016 by Margaret Ludemann

Many of my blogs begin with “one of the great things about living in The Glen” (in Glenview Illinois). This one is no different. Today’s “great things” blog focuses on the wonderful opportunities that Glen residents have for summer fun with family and friends.

Right dab in the middle of Glen Town Center, The Glen’s retail and restaurant “main street”, you’ll find summer fun in the form of its annual Summer Concert Series. Each Tuesday from June 28 through August 30, bands perform in an outdoor setting, each starting at 6:30 p.m. There’s food to be purchased though many Glen residents bring their own along with a bottle of wine for mom and dad…and sodas for their kids. They spread a blanket, enjoy the wonderful weather, and listen to music which changes from week to week…sometimes rock and roll, sometimes country, sometimes golden oldies, and sometimes Top 40 hits. The first concert will feature Windy City Rev Ups, a high energy “rock and blues” group that frequently plays at the House of Blues in the city. And as all of us who live here know, Glen Town Center is within easy walking distance of any home in The Glen…from the single family homes in Southgate, Chapel Crossing, and Landings to the townhomes of Tower Crossing and other Glen neighborhoods.

On Wednesday evenings, only a five minute drive from The Glen, we enjoy another concert series in Jackman Park. The Concerts in the Park series is sponsored by the Village of Glenview. Tonight’s concert presents Fool House (pop hits from the 90’s), and the June 22 concert will offer the Motown, soul and rock and roll sound of Second Hand Soul Band.

So, for those of you who may be thinking about moving to The Glen, these concerts offer a nice opportunity to see this spectacular development up close. There are always homes for sale in The Glen, so if you want information on the local real estate market, give me a call at 847-401-1802 or email me atmargaretludemann@gmail.com. I am a long time Glen homeowner and an award-winning realtor.

Tower Crossing…REALLY big townhomes

May 31, 2016 by Margaret Ludemann

Ever heard of a townhome with over 4,000 square feet? I didn’t think so. Well, unless you live in Tower Crossing in The Glen, home to 154 townhomes ranging in size from 3,031 to 4,105 square feet, depending on the model. It’s not only a cool place…it’s MY cool place. I’ve lived here since 2003 when the first units were built.

The Glen is the luxury residential development in Glenview, Illinois built on the grounds of the former Naval Air Station Glenview. It consists of about 2,100 homes and nearly 5,000 residents in several unique Glen communities. There are single family homes, townhomes, row homes, two-flats, duplexes, condos, and rental apartments. Oh, there are also two retirement communities.

Tower Crossing offers six basic models, two major variations of certain models, and more options and upgrades than you can count. So, truly, no two homes are alike. The majority of these luxury homes have three bedrooms, but there are plenty with four as well. We even have a few with two and (gulp) five bedrooms. All are brick homes with four stories. All have private decks, some also have elevators, private yards, and patios. Tower Crossing borders Glen Town Center with its many shops, boutiques, and restaurants. Some also border The Glen Club, an award-winning 18-hole championship golf course. So, homeowners have everything within a few steps. Wait a minute. Not everything. You actually have to walk about 8 minutes to The Glen Metra Station with convenient train service to the city (downtown Chicago).

If you’re curious about Tower Crossing you can go to www.TowerCrossingHomes.com or give me a call at 847-401-1802. Not only do I live in Tower Crossing, but I am an award winning Realtor who specializes in Glen homes.
